AFRICAN NATIONAL CONGRESS MOURNS THE PASSING OF REVEREND BK DLUDLA
- 13 March 2025
The African National Congress (ANC) mourns the passing of Reverend Bekizipho Khulekani ‘BK’ Dludla, a dedicated servant of God, a fearless advocate for justice, and a pillar of the liberation struggle. As a leader in the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA), he played a crucial role in transforming the church into a force for social justice. His lifelong commitment to faith, education, and the fight against apartheid made him a beacon of hope for many, particularly ANC members who found refuge in his unwavering support.
Reverend Dludla’s role in the struggle extended beyond the pulpit. As a close ally of the late human rights lawyer and UDF leader Comrade Archie Gumede, he was instrumental in sheltering political activists and fearlessly demanding the release of Nelson Mandela. His church, eZihlabathini in Bertice Street, Durban, became a sanctuary for underground ANC operations. He championed education, personally funding the schooling of underprivileged children, and played a leading role in institutions like Inanda Seminary and Adams College, which nurtured many ANC leaders, including the late Comrade Mtholephi Mthimkhulu.
Even in retirement, Baba Dludla remained a guiding force for the church and the broader liberation movement. His principled stance on justice and human dignity continued to shape young leaders and strengthen the moral fabric of our society. As the ANC, an organisation born in the church and deeply rooted in values of justice and equality, we recognise his immeasurable contribution at a time when our movement is striving to rebuild and restore trust among our people.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, the UCCSA, and all who were touched by his life’s work. His legacy will live on in the many lives he transformed and in the ongoing struggle for a just and equal society. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
END//
